                               Athletics  Athletics  has been contested at every  Summer Olympics  since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the  1896 Summer Olympics . The athletics program traces its earliest roots to events used in the  ancient Greek Olympics . The modern program includes  track and field  events,  road running  events, and  race walking  events.  Cross country running  was also on the program in earlier editions but it was dropped after the  1924 Summer Olympics .  Athletics   is a group of   sporting   events that involves competitive   running ,   jumping ,   throwing , and   walking . [1]   The most common types of athletics competitions are   track and field ,   road running ,   cross-country running , and   racewalking . The results of  racing  events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the  athlete  that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. Basket Ball

                               Basket Ball Basketball at the Summer Olympics  has been a  sport  for men consistently since  1936 . Prior to its inclusion as a medal sport,  basketball  was held as a demonstration event in  1904 . Women's basketball made its debut in the  Summer Olympics  in  1976 .  FIBA  organizes both the men's and women's  FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments  and the Summer Olympics basketball tournaments, which are sanctioned by the  IOC . [1]                     The United States is by far the most successful country in Olympic basketball, with  United States men's teams  having won 16 of 19 tournaments in which they participated, including seven consecutive titles from  1936  through  1968 .  United States women's  teams have won eight titles out of the 10 tournaments in which they competed, including seven in a row from  1996  to  2020 .                        Olympic Games Olympic Games , athletic festival that originated in  ancient Greece  and was  revived  in the late 19th century. Before the 1970s the Games were officially limited to competitors with amateur status, but in the 1980s many events were opened to professional athletes. Currently, the Games are open to all, even the top professional athletes in  basketball  and  football (soccer) . The ancient Olympic Games included several of the sports that are now part of the Summer Games program, which at times has included events in as many as 32 different  sports .
